An apple is a type of fruit that is grown on an apple tree.  It is called a pomaceous fruit because the plant that it grows on flowers.  The flowers on an apple tree are pink or white

Most apples are ready to be harvested in autumnThere's more than 7,000 varieties of apples grown in the world today and about 2,500 in the United States, but the crabapple is the only apple native to North America.

The fruit comes in many different shapes and sizes.  Apples also can be found in a large ranges of colors. Red, yellow, orange and green apples can be found in most grocery stores. Some apples are extremely good for eating while others are primarily used for cooking. Apples are used to make apple juice, cider, vinegar, apple sauce and many different kinds
of desserts.

Apples contain Vitamin C as well as many other antioxidants.  Apples are also a good source of fiber. Scientists and doctors are beginning to believe there might be some truth in the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!"
