The Wright Brothers also designed and manufactured kites, gliders and bicycles.  A foot-long paper helicopter made from paper, bamboo, cork with a rubber band to twirl its motor was said to be the inspirational for the brothers when they began working on their airplane.  The gift was given to them by their father.
