1.The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written by L. Frank Baum, in 1900.
2.He died twenty years before the film, The Wizard of Oz, was released.
3.Judy Garland (Dorothy), Ray Bolger (Scarecrow), Jack Haley (Tinman) and , 
Bert Lahr (Cowardly Lion) were the main characters in the film.

4."Over the Rainbow" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

5.Baum wrote 13 sequels to the book and they all belonged to the “The Oz Books”.

6.The book was illustrated by Baum's friend and collaborator W.W. Denslow,
who also co-held the copyright.  For the time, the design of the book was expensive
because of the colored illustrations on every page.

7.The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has been translated into over 40 languages.

8.In modern times, it is widely held as a classic of children's literature.
However, sometimes it has received criticism because of the witches in the book.

9.Not only did Baum’s book become one of the best known movies of all times,
but it also became a stage play in 1902.

10.Fox Studios would not loan Shirley Temple to MGM Studios to play Dorothy,
so the role went to Judy Garland.
